An investigation into the cause of a blaze at a sweet shop in Newcastle has been launched.
On Tuesday evening, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service crews attended a fire at a sweet shop The Sweetfather on Elswick Road in Benwell, Newcastle.
The fire service received the call just after 6.30pm and firefighters were at the scene extinguishing the fire within four minutes. Crews from Newcastle Central and West Denton Community Fire Stations brought the fire under control.
Fortunately, the fire service confirmed that no-one was on the premises at the time of the fire. Crews left the scene at around 10.30pm.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze has now been launched.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that we attended an incident on Tuesday evening (April 19) on Elswick Road in Newcastle. Our fire control received a call at 6:36pm and our crews were on the scene in four minutes to begin dealing with the fire at a commercial property.
"Using their breathing apparatus, crews from Newcastle Central and West Denton Community Fire Stations brought the fire under control.
"Thankfully no-one was in the premises at the time of the fire. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation. Our crews left the scene at 10:31pm."
