Emergency services were on high alert as torrential rain left many people stranded and fearing for their safety.
Firefighters in Donegal, Derry and Tyrone responded to almost 50 emergency calls.
The North’s Fire and Rescue Service said it received 106 appeals for help between 7pm and 1.30am.

One person was pulled from a submerged vehicle while five others were rescued after becoming trapped in flooded properties.
Derry SDLP councillor Steven Edwards described the downpour as “apocalyptic”.
On Saturday, the Western Health Trust said the Altnagelvin Hospital in the city had to temporarily close some sections of its A&E, while events at the Foyle Maritime Festival on Saturday evening were closed for safety reasons.
In Donegal, roads, pathways and some businesses on the Inishowen Peninsula were damaged by the flooding.
Many major routes were impassable for a time with the Muff to Moville road one of the worst affected.
Donegal County Council was also called out after the parapet of the bridge near the Redcastle Hotel in the town collapsed.
Looking ahead for the rest of the week, meteorologists said conditions will be slightly cooler but more settled. Today is expected to be mostly cloudy with some light rain but the afternoon will be drier.
Met Eireann expects temperatures to reach between 15C in the northwest and 20C in the southeast with the conditions being “cooler and less muggy”.
Spokeswoman Aoife Kealy said: “The general forecast for the week will see more settled
conditions.
“On the bright side of things, it won’t be as gloomy – the showers over the weekend will clear off to the east overnight.High pressure will slowly build in, and things will turn more settled. There will be a lot drier weather.
“There will be a few showers of light rain at times, but it will be minimal.
“It will also be cloudy at times.
“On Wednesday there will be some good sunny spells, and nearly every day this week there will be plenty of sunshine, but it just wont be wall to wall sunshine.
“It will be a pleasant week, with winds easing off.
“On top of that, temperatures will fall this week but it wont be bad. We will have temperatures into the mid high teens.
“But it won’t be cold or even cool. It just wont be as warm and muggy.
“From Friday onwards temperatures will recover.
“It will also turn into more
unsettled conditions for weekend.
“The low pressures will make a return.”
Meanwhile, Europe continued to swelter under furnace like conditions as temperatures exceeded 40C
in southern areas of the continent.

heatwave which has brought misery for millions of people.
