Firefighters called out to rescue seagull frozen to lamppost in freezing temperatures

Emergency crews were called out to rescue a seagull which had become frozen to a lamppost in sub-zero temperature s.

A fire crew was sent out to rescue the sea bird which had landed on the lamppost in Bridlington for a little too long.

The bird's feet froze to the metal, leaving it stuck in place and in need of some help.

A single fire engine was dispatched from Bridlington Fire Station to rescue the seagull on Matson Road at approximately 9.30am this morning.

The emergency service confirmed the bird was successfully rescued and taken down from the lamppost, HullLive reports.

A photo of the stranded bird was posted on Bridlington Facebook community group, with Arran Adams writing: "Silly seagull got his feet stuck on a lamppost this morning."

One person commented: "And we all wonder why this country has gone to s**t. What a waste of money."

Another person wrote: "Every living creature in this world needs a little help sometimes just hope you all get the help when you need it."

Someone else agreed, adding: "Poor thing, yes maybe a waste of money but everything has the right to live, firemen go to much worse than this so was probably a bit of light relief to them."

A third added: "All the people saying it should have been left. That's a living creature. No matter what you think of them it doesn't deserve to be left to die like that.

"And another note, I for one wouldn't want to watch it there stressing out and I certainly wouldn't want children to see it struggling in pain for it to then die stuck to it until the weather got warmer and the ice melted for it to fall to the floor once dead. What is wrong with you all."
