Fired CBS News anchor Scott Pelley speaks out after 60 Minutes departure

  • Pelley's termination followed an outburst during a staff meeting where he also criticized new executive producer Nick Bilton's qualifications.
  • Bilton, in a note to Pelley, stated that Pelley "hijacked" the meeting to disparage him and Weiss with "remarkable incivility and contempt."
  • Pelley, who had been with CBS News for 37 years and a 60 Minutes correspondent for 22, later shared an Instagram post thanking fans for their support. “To all of you who have been so kind, you are the wind in my sails. So deeply grateful,” he captioned the photo of himself out on the water.
  • Weiss's appointment last October, after a billionaire with reported ties to President Donald Trump took over CBS's parent company, has faced scrutiny, including over a pulled segment about Venezuelan migrants.
