Fire outside Bristol Morrisons destroys donations in suspected arson

A "large amount" of items inside a clothing bank went up in flames last night in a suspected arson attack.

A fire crew was called out to a clothing bin outside the Morrisons Daily Withywood branch on Four Acres, at around 11.30pm on Sunday (January 16).

The call-out followed another blaze just before 11pm in a rubbish bin on Sherrin Way, which was not thought to be deliberate.

An Avon Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 11.33pm to reports of a rubbish fire on Four Acres, Bishopsworth, Bristol.

"One crew from Bedminster fire station attended and found a large amount of clothing on fire in a clothing bin.

"Crews used one high pressure hose reel and hydraulic spreaders to extinguish the fire.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be deliberate ignition."

A separate fire which took place shortly before is thought to be "accidental," according to the fire service.

The spokesperson continued: "We were called at 10.58pm to reports of a rubbish bin on fire on Sherrin Way, Bishopsworth.

"One crew from Bedminster fire station attended and used a high pressure hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental ignition."
