Fire crews rushed to a blaze which broke out in a Coatbridge tower block on Tuesday evening.
Emergency services were alerted as flames could be seen engulfing the 12th-floor flat at Witchwood Court just after 5pm.
Six fire engines plus further specialist teams raced to the scene at the high-rise building, off Lomond Road in Townhead; nobody was injured and fire fighters remain at the site to complete safety checks.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live: “We were alerted at 5.15pm on Tuesday, 2 May, to reports of a dwelling fire on Lomond Road, Coatbridge.
“Operations Control mobilised six fire appliances and multiple specialist resources to a fire affecting a flat on the 12th floor of a multi-storey building.
“Crews extinguished the fire and remain on scene to ensure the area is safe. There are no reported casualties.”
Police Scotland added: “Officers assisted Scottish Fire and Rescue Service colleagues at a non-suspicious fire within a flat in Witchwood Court, Coatbridge. No one was reported as being injured.”
Stephen Llewellyn, who is North Lanarkshire’s chief housing officer, said: “A fire broke out in one of our properties at Witchwood Court on Tuesday afternoon. Thanks to the robust fire safety systems we have in place, there were no injuries reported.
“The response of the emergency services to this incident was outstanding and we are very grateful for their rapid response and professionalism throughout.
“Some tenants have been temporarily relocated while we assess the damage and repair work, and we are providing them with support to minimise this disruption.”
Coatbridge North councillor Kirsten Larson visited the scene with ward colleague Allan Stubbs; she described the blaze as “a substantial fire” and said: “There appear to be no serious injuries. Huge thanks to the huge team of emergency services and housing officials on site making every effort to ensure people are safe.”
Fulton MacGregor, the local MSP, posted: “I hope everyone is safe; my thanks as ever to the emergency services in attendance and working to ensure everyone’s safety.”
