Nintendo kept us waiting for Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave news, but its release is finally in sight. The new Fire Emblem game was revealed for Nintendo Switch 2 back in 2025, but it took until the June 2026 Nintendo Direct to get an exact release date penciled in.
With the latest Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave trailer once more teasing a shared universe with one of the best Nintendo Switch games going, Fire Emblem: Three Houses, there's a lot of new information to catch up on since the strategy game's last appearance. Most recently, we also got a full dedicated Direct stream for Fortune's Weave, and thanks to that, we now have gameplay insights, story details, and a bunch of other cool snippets to start unpacking.
As a massive fan of the series in general, I've rounded up everything that you need to know so far right here. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave release date
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is set to launch on September 17, 2026.
On one hand, that means there's not much longer to wait until we can dig into the game for ourselves - which will be welcome, given how little of the game and its setting we've seen so far. But on the other hand, September 17 is slap-bang in the middle of one of the busiest months we've ever seen for new games - that week alone will also see the launch of Marvel's Wolverine, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4, and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight's Nintendo Switch 2 release.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave platforms
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, which means it will not be playable on the original Nintendo Switch.
Pre-order information is yet to be confirmed, although with a release date now confirmed we should see pre-orders begin any day now. While we wait for more details, you can read our Fire Emblem: Three Houses review in the meantime.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave story – is it a sequel to Three Houses?
The story of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave revolves around the Heroic Games, a tournament which attracts fighters from across the world to battle for a chance to have their wish granted. In June 2026, Nintendo confirmed the game will revolve around the four characters: young child Cai, swordsman Dietrich, queen Theodora, and musician Leda.
As the four compete in the Heroic Games, we'll be able to explore the city of Dagsion - where the competition takes place - and beyond, with allies to recruit and new techniques to lock down when you're not fighting in the colosseum. Thanks to the August Fire Emblem stream, we got to learn more about each character. I don't want to get into too many spoilers here, but each hero has their personal motivation for joining the game.
For instance, Kai wants to win so that he can use the prize of the wish to save his father, while Leda is on a revenge quest. The stream also revealed the bombshell that these four characters aren't the true main characters. In fact, it seems like the Heroic Games is the precursor to a war for the sake of the world. The real protagonist is a soul recruited by an adult version of Sothis - the mysterious character who spoke to and guided protagonist Bayleth through the events of Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
In the presentation, let us know that this soul (seemingly called Eshmel) can choose to face the underworld alone or go back in time to change the four heroes' fates and recruit them for the fight. I'm personally still a bit confused about the story's timeline, but I'll keep you posted as soon as I learn about any more details.
Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave gameplay
Thanks to the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Direct shown on August 4, 2026, we got to see a ton of gameplay details. The upcoming game is a turn based tactical RPG, where you will have to train up and utilise units to take out your opponent on a gridded map. If you have played Three Houses then you'll be familiar with the combat here as a lot of it has been carried over into this new title.
Combat Arts are back, as well as class types and certification exams. However, what is different is Blaze Arts, which has the main four heroes using special abilities and unleashing massive amounts of power. Each hero has a unique ability, and that also extends to the world map. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave does let you explore outside of the main city, where you can use turns to move around to new locations such as dungeons and engage in skirmishes. It's a lot more detailed than Three Houses so far and it does seem like there are more meaningful options here when it comes to using your free time between battles.
Social sim elements are also in the game, giving you the ability to recruit, take companions for a meal and develop friendships between your crew. I will say that so far romance hasn't been confirmed in this game yet, so keep that in mind if social elements are important to you.
Another interesting feature that I have spotted in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is how the game plays with time. There is a mode that lets you switch between the four heroes during a single save, letting you experience all the parallel storylines together. This feature is separate from the main game feature where you can go back in time as the true protagonist Eshmel to help the heroes. I'm very curious how this all fits together storywise as well as if there are any massive gameplay benefits for this decision so stay tuned as I await more information!
