Fire destroys Planet Street Turkish bakery in Perth leaving family and customers devastated

The fire destroyed the bakery in Carlisle and triggered a hazmat warning.

A fire that gutted a wholesale bakery has devastated a Perth family and their long-standing customers, with the 25-year-old family-run business razed to the ground.

More than 120 firefighters attended the scene on Friday morning at the Planet Street bakery in Carlisle, with authorities quickly issuing a hazmat warning for the smoke in the area.

Though the fire was brought under control just before 7am, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) said it expected it may take crews up to 5pm to have the blaze extinguished.

DFES incident controller Leigh Bishop said no-one was inside the building when the emergency call was made by a delivery driver.

The hazmat warning was downgraded around 9am but a smoke warning remains in place for the surrounding area, with DFES recommending people keep their door closed and air conditioners turned off.

Turkish Bakeries was established 25 years ago and from their factory on Planet Street, supplied businesses across the states and supermarkets across the country with a range of artisanal baked goods.

Authorities will determine the cause of the blaze once it is extinguished and safe to enter the building.

"It was hectic, lots of police, sirens, lots of family members connected to the business were standing around consoling each other and giving each other hugs," neighbour Krista De Blanken said.

"Hopefully they will be able to pick up the pieces and rebuild."

Investigtions are underway into the cause of the fire. (ABC News)
