Video footage showed firefighters wading into floodwater as two vehicles were left submerged on a road in south Manchester.

The clip was taken on Crossley Road in Levenshulme this morning (Tuesday) - which is prone to flooding where the run roads under the railway bridge. It showed at least two vehicles left submerged underwater in the flood.

The fire service said two people - a man and a woman - had to be rescued from their vehicle. They had become 'trapped' due the flooding.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 10am this morning (Tuesday 10 January), one fire engine from Withington fire station along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton and the Water Incident Unit from Eccles were called to reports of a person trapped in their vehicles due to flooding on Crossley Road, Heaton Chapel.

As well as Crossley Road, several other roads and motorways across Greater Manchester were left flooded this morning as torrential downpours hit the region. One lane remains closed on the M60 anticlockwise carriageway near junction 25 for Brinnington due to flooding.
