Fire crews were sent on an actual wild goose chase in Salford Quays earlier this evening following reports of an injured goose in need of assistance.
A large emergency service presence was called to Salford Quays just before 5.15pm on Wednesday evening (February 2), with a number of fire engines and tactical response units seen in attendance.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said they were called to the scene, near to the Beefeater restaurant, by the RSPCA to attempt to rescue an injured goose.

GMFRS added that two fire engines from Salford Fire Station, a Technical Response Unit and a Water Incident Unit were all called out.
Photos taken from the scene show the Water Incident Unit searching the Quays on boats and with diving equipment in tow.
Fire crews spent an hour and a half at the scene but were unable to track the injured bird down.
In a statement, a GMFRS spokesperson said: “At 5:13pm on Wednesday 2 February two fire engines from Salford fire station, a Technical Response Unit and Water Incident Unit supported colleagues from the RSCPA to attempt to rescue an injured goose at Salford Quays.
“Crews were in attendance for approximately an hour and half.”
The M.E.N has contacted the RSPCA about the incident.
