Fire crews race to respond to incident in Glasgow

UPDATE: At 11.52am, it was confirmed that Great Western Road eastbound is now open to all traffic. 

Howevere, Great Western Road westbound and Tabard Road remain closed. 

Emergency services have raced to the scene of a 'building fire' in Glasgow this morning.

At around 8.48am, a number of fire engines were seen on Great Western Road, not far from Knightswood Park, amongst what appears to be billows of smoke.

A Traffcom bulletin issued at 9.20am has confirmed that the road is currently closed westbound from Lincoln Avenue as fire crews respond to the incident.

One eyewitness told the Glasgow Times that there seemed to be a fire nearby and that smoke in the area was 'really bad'.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.34am on Thursday, 2 January to reports of a building fire at Great Western Road, Glasgow.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised two appliances and one aerial appliance to the scene and on arrival firefighters found a fire within a commercial premises.

“A further two appliances, were mobilised and crews remain on scene as they work to extinguish the fire. No casualties have been reported.”
