Fire crews extinguish Paisley town centre blaze as smoke seen miles away

A blaze in Paisley town centre has caused drama this afternoon with smoke seen from miles away.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the fire which happened in the open near Kwik Fit on Incle Street.

The thick black smog emanating from the fire swirled in the sky around 2.20pm with two fire engines rushing to the scene to extinguish the source.

The Paisley Daily Express understands that tyres had been set alight, with the damage extending to part of the Kwik Fit building. The company has been contacted for comment.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed it attended the blaze and said: “We were alerted at 2.23pm on Wednesday, April 26 to reports of a fire in the open behind a commercial premises on Incle Street, Paisley.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene where firefighters extinguished a fire at the rear of the building. There are no reported casualties and crews remain on scene, working to make the area safe.”
