A major fire broke out on Blackford Hill this evening, with 21 calls going into the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) as residents across the city spotted the blaze.
The fire is understood to have been caused by gorse bushes being set aligh, with the first call being received by the SFRS at around 6:25pm on Saturday 19 March.
Comments on Facebook in the I Love Morningside Group state that the fire was located on the west side of the popular hill that is used by dog walkers and active residents of Edinburgh.
It is believed that the fire was extinguished after a pump appliance from Liberton fire station attended the scene.
A spokesperson for the SFRS said: “We received the first call alerting us to a fire on Blackford Hill at around 18:25pm on Saturday March 19.
“We then received 21 separate calls alerting us to the blaze.
“As a result one pump appliance was sent from Liberton where it successfully extinguished a fire that had broken out in a group of gorse bushes.”
In a picture captured by Yvonne Balfour, the blaze can be seen from a distance close to the path that leads up the west of the hill.
It is not yet known what had caused the blaze.
