Fire breaks out at Dunfermline shop as emergency crews race to scene

A fire has broken out at a shop in Dunfermline, prompting an emergency response.

The alarm was raised shortly after 1pm on Sunday, December 18 after calls were made about a blaze having taken hold of a property on Queen Anne Street in the city.

Mercy crews, including Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, sped to the scene in a bid to extinguish the flames and assist recovery. The store was empty at the time of the incident.

Photos taken at the site, which were shared online, show two appliances hitched up on the street, with multiple firefighters decked out in safety gear holding hoses and other equipment working to make the area safe.

Passers-by stand at a distance, looking worriedly on. It is understood that at the the height of the blaze, four fire engines and a high reach unit were in attendance, but that the effort was scaled back just after 2pm.

A number of city centre roads were locked down by cops while the event unfolded, with access blocked at the bus station, Cross Wynd and at the entrance to Queen Anne Street near the Commercial pub.

It is believed no one was hurt or required hospital treatment. A probe has now been launched to piece together exactly what happened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 1.05pm on Sunday, 18 December, to a report of a fire in an empty shop in Queen Anne Street, Dunfermline.

“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and no one was injured. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.
