Fire at Pizzarova's Gloucester Road branch prompts closure after water damage

A fire broke out at one of Bristol's most popular pizza restaurants today (Friday, June 24) leading to its closure. Firefighters hosed down the blaze at Pizzarova's branch on Gloucester Road, and the water damage means that it will remain closed for now.

In a statement shared on the Bristol chain's Instagram page this afternoon, the team at Pizzarova told customers: "We are sorry to say that our extractor fan at Gloucester Road overheated today and it caused a bit of commotion. Everyone is safe and the small fire was put out by the amazing team of fire fighters that happened to be passing on their way to the prison.

"This does mean that we will be closed for a bit while we get everything back to ship shape as there has been some water damage inside. Thanks for the messages of concern, we’ll keep you updated on when we will be back open."

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Temple Fire Station were flagged down by members of the public at a pizza restaurant on Gloucester Road at 11.50am. On investigation, crews found a fire within an extractor unit.

"Firefighters used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze. Crews also used gas monitors and thermal imaging cameras to check the property for further risk of fire.

"The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental."

It is the second branch to be hit by a fire in the space of less than two months, with the Park Street branch cordoned off by firefighters on May 8 and temporarily closed. The causes of both fires appears to be the same - in May, Pizzarova told its followers on Instagram that "Park Street will be closed for a few days after our extractor fan overheated".

There were no flames but smoke was seen coming out of the building that night. The Park Street branch has since reopened following the installation of a new extractor fan.
