Emergency services rush to blaze at flats under construction
Emergency services rushed to a blaze at a block of flats under construction on Wednesday (September 28) evening.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service received a 999 call from a concerned member of the public at 7.36pm on Wednesday reporting a blaze inside a partly-built block of flats, Vauxhall Warf, on the corner of Vauxhall Road and Barmouth Way.
Three fire engines arrived at the scene four minutes later, along with the North West Ambulance Service and Merseyside Police. Four fire fighters entered the building and found a section of the third floor alight. They used high pressure reels and the fire was extinguished by 7.56pm.
The ECHO understands that due to the initial 999 call stating the fire was at a block of flats, an ambulance was sent as a precaution. The North West Ambulance Service were stood down at 8.03pm and nobody is believed to be injured.
Mum replied 'that's heavy that' after being arrested for attempted murder
Emma Walsh is currently standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court accused of murdering her boyfriend Gary Morgan. The 31-year-old knifed her partner in the heart after the pair watched the football together in the pub, then claimed he had been stabbed by "some fella in town".
Yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, a transcript taken from video footage recorded on the body worn camera of a police officer who attended the scene on Lavan Close in Everton was read to the jury. Walsh was described as being "clearly upset and crying" as she was led from the living room, where paramedics were tending to a critically injured Mr Morgan, and taken outside.
She then told Police Constable Gary Morson: "That's my partner, I should be with him. Gary, come on lad - get up.
"We were having a drink. We were at the Belmont watching the match."
Walsh laughed as she said of Liverpool FC's game at title rivals Manchester City: "2-2, phew. Manchester City didn't win.
"Gary, come on my love - come on. It's my son's birthday.
"Dad, is he ok? Please let me know.
"We've both had cocaine and we're both alcoholics. We were at it every day.
"It's hard. Please come on baby."
Walsh asked to "go with him" in the ambulance, but was instead told she was being arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Sobbing, she said: "Why?"
"I've done nothing wrong, I wouldn't. Let me see my dad before I go.
"Attempted murder though. That's heavy that."
Girl saved mum's life when she collapsed after eating lunch together
A five-year-old girl saved her mum's life when she collapsed after eating her lunch.
Breyer Warke sprang into action after her mum Linda became unresponsive at their home in Liverpool. Linda and Breyer were having lunch together, when Linda finished her food and stood up, before collapsing onto the floor.
Breyer, who was five at the time, thought her mum was ok at first and she was just pretending. However, she quickly realised something wasn’t right after she started gently hitting her mum in the face to try and wake her up and she wasn’t responsive.
Knowing her mum is diabetic, Breyer calmly called her grandad to tell him what had happened, who immediately called 999. Linda’s blood sugar was dangerously low, and she was minutes away from a hypoglycaemic coma.
