A fire at an Ohio hog farm complex has killed approximately 6,000 animals, an official confirmed.
Chief Brian Bennington of the Central Townships Joint Fire District reported a large smoke column visible on Wednesday from Fine Oak Farms in London, Ohio.
Firefighters found two of five large agricultural buildings "heavily involved in fire.” The complex housed about 7,500 hogs, officials said. Multiple departments were called and responded to the blaze.
faced sustained winds of 20 mph (32 kph), gusting to 35 mph (56 kph), accelerating the blaze. A limited rural water supply necessitated extensive water-shuttle operations, which took five hours to complete.
No people were injured. The Ohio State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause, with no arson suspected, Bennington added.
The farm is located in Madison County, about 25 miles (40 kilometres) southwest of Columbus.
