Fintona GAA have paid tribute to the late Matthew McCallan after a body was found as part of an investigation into his disappearance.

The 15-year-old was an aspiring footballer in the underage ranks with the Tyrone club and they paid tribute to him on social media this evening.

It read: "May Matthew's young soul rest in the arms of the Angels.

"Thanks to all our many volunteers."

While the tweet contained a picture which read: "The Committee of Fintona Pearses would like to thank all our members, the wider Fintona community, and volunteers from further afield, who assisted in the search for Matthew.

"We would also like to thank the Fintona Roman Catholic and Church of Ireland parishes for the use of their facilities and general hospitality during our searches.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter, Frances, the wider McCallan family, and Matthew's many friends at this incredibly sad time.

"May his young soul rest in the arms of the Angels.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Matthew was a past pupil of St Mary's PS, Carland and was a year 12 student at St Patrick's College in Dungannon, Belfast Live reports.

The missing teenager had not been seen since he left the Jamboree country music night in Fintona in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The search had been coordinated from the Church of Ireland in Fintona, where Matthew’s family had earlier gathered and thanked the public for their efforts to find him.
