Fingal LGBTQ+ Pride event taking place at Swords Castle this summer

Dublin Pride is launching its very first Fingal Pride event at Swords Castle and Gardens.

The family-friendly event, which is part of Dublin Pride and supported by Fingal County Council, will take place on Sunday, May 22 between 12pm and 6pm.

This comes as a result of the culmination of a partnership between Dublin Pride and Fingal County Council that started in 2021.

Fingal Pride has already run a number of successful events to celebrate the area's LGBTQ+ community in Swords, Blanchardstown, Balbriggan and Lusk, including Fingal Winter Pride, diversity & inclusion training, coffee mornings and the Living with Pride touring exhibition.

Mayor of Fingal Cllr Seána Ó Rodaigh was delighted her recent motion to install the first Rainbow Crossing in the county received unanimous support at the full council meeting in County Hall on May 9.

She said: "This show of solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in Fingal is significant and will coincide with Fingal Pride events in May.

"It has been my pleasure to attend many of the Fingal Pride events throughout the year as Mayor and see the important work they do. I look forward to seeing the Rainbow Crossing in Swords very soon.”

Festival Director Jed Dowling added: "As part of our mission to make Pride more accessible, it seemed like a natural next step to get other local authorities involved.

"We were incredibly excited to get the support of Fingal County Council and are looking forward to bringing Pride to even more people in Dublin."

The event at Swords Castle sees a programme suited to all ages, aiming to create a family friendly way to celebrate Pride in Fingal.

Meanwhile Dublin City LGBTQ+ Pride takes place in June with a series of events leading up to the main parade on June 25, which returns as a full scale event for the first time since 2019.
