Newcastle United were among a handful of Premier League sides that saw an increase in TV payments for the 2021/22 campaign. The Magpies received £126.7 million from the Premier League in 2021/22, the ninth highest in the division.
Twitter account Swiss Ramble has dissected the figures online and broke them down further. Champions Manchester City took home £153 million with 20th placed Norwich City taking home £101 million - the first time in Premier League history a side that finished bottom took home over £100 million in TV revenue.
The Magpies received a £5.7 million increase, the sixth highest in the division and one of only nine clubs to see an increase in funds. Brighton took home the largest increase with a £16.1 million increase from the 2020/21 campaign; Arsenal in second with £10.9 million; Tottenham Hotspur in third with an £8.2 million increase with Crystal Palace registering a £7.3million and Wolves registering a £6.6 million increase.

Newcastle took home £87.5m as an equal share, coming from domestic rights £31.8m, overseas rights £48.9m and commercial revenue £6.8m. The work done by Eddie Howe and the team to avoid a relegation battle paid dividends in relation to merit payments.
The Magpies £20.6 million in total for finishing 11th - with £16.9 million of that coming from domestic tv rights and the further 3.7 coming from oversees rights. Howe's side took home £18.6million in facility fees - an amount paid based on the number of games broadcast live.
In 2021/22 the minimum payment for Premier League clubs was £11.0m for 12 live games, while the maximum was £25.3m for 29 games. Newcastle had 21 games live broadcast last season, which saw them finish above Wolves and Brighton in the financial table, despite finishing behind them in the league.
Swiss Ramble tweeted: "The TV money distribution method in the Premier League remains the most equitable of Europe’s major football leagues with the ratio from top to bottom earning club being only 1.5. This is much better than other leagues: Serie A 2.7, Bundesliga 3.1, Ligue 1 3.1 and La Liga 3.5."
