In case you haven’t heard, the Washington Commanders have a big night Sunday. The Commanders [7-5-1] host the New York Giants [7-5-1] in a rematch from their Week 13 tie from two weeks ago.
The winner of this game could almost lock down one of the NFC’s final two wild-card spots. Per Football Outsiders, the winner has around a 90% chance of making the playoff field with three weeks remaining in the season. Thanks to Seattle’s recent slide, the loser of this game will remain in possession of NFC’s final playoff spot for another week.
So who wins the rematch?

The key to this game for the Commanders is not allowing Giants quarterback Daniel Jones to beat them with his legs. Jones has had some big games against the Commanders running the football. He was outstanding in the first half two weeks ago, but Washington shut down Jones and Saquon Barkley in the second half and New York’s offense was virtually nonexistent. The Commanders must follow that second-half defensive blueprint.
Offensively, it’s more of the same. Feed running backs Antonio Gibson and Brian Robinson Jr., and keep quarterback Taylor Heinicke in third-and-manageable situations. If those things happen, the Commanders will win,
I do believe this is another close game, but Washington pulls away in the fourth quarter and improves to 8-5-1 on the season.

If the Commanders are going to prove they are a legitimate playoff-quality team, don’t they need to prove something this week?
Taylor Heinicke missed Logan Thomas for an easy touchdown last game.
Wouldn’t it be great if the Commanders could take care of business, earn a win and be convincing in the same game?
A win gives the Commanders eight wins this season, a high for Rivera with Washington.
