Final Fantasy XIV's new 'Bastion' Job makes World of Warcraft's tank classes look lame. Here's how I think Blizzard should fix WoW to respond.

An image of an armored knight wielding giant arm cannons stands next to a minotaur riding in a heavily armed combat mech.

Recently, I decided to catch up on Final Fantasy XIV's 2026 FanFest in Berlin out of morbid curiosity about what one of the new Jobs will look like for the Evercold expansion, even though I haven't actively played the game in years due to being disappointed by the Dawntrail expansion.

What I saw made my jaw hit the floor because Final Fantasy XIV's new job, the 'Bastion', looks so unbashingly cool. It's essentially a brawler that fights using two greatshields to block enemy attacks, slash at them with claws attached to said shields, and then transforms the shields into arm cannons that blow enemies away with laser blasts.
