Filip Jorgensen inspired by Chelsea great to take Robert Sanchez starting spot

Filip Jorgensen has vowed to draw inspiration from Chelsea legend Petr Cech, after joining the Blues from Villarreal in a £20.7million deal.

Jorgensen is already in training with Chelsea on their pre-season tour, having completed his medical tests in the USA.

The 22-year-old will be on hand when Chelsea take on Mexican side Club America in Atlanta on Wednesday night, in the third match of the Blues’ US tour.

Blues stalwart Cech won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League in a glittering 11 years at Chelsea.

Jorgensen has now revealed he grew up watching Cech and is excited for the chance to follow in the former Czech Republic star’s footsteps.

“I always liked watching Chelsea because I watched a lot of Petr Cech growing up, so Chelsea were one of my favourite teams to follow,” said Jorgensen.

“I am very happy with how the last 12 months have panned out, I am very confident in myself and I know what qualities I have.

“Luckily I had the chance to show myself on the biggest stage in Spain and now I am very happy to have the chance to do that at one of the biggest clubs in the world.”

“I know he is a very good goalkeeper and I hope we can learn from each other and produce the best versions of ourselves together

Filip Jorgensen on Robert Sanchez

Jorgensen will compete with Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic for senior game-time with the Blues this season, while Chelsea will look to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Petrovic has stayed at the Blues’ Cobham training ground to rehab a minor injury and has missed the pre-season challenge Stateside.

“Robert Sanchez has been with the national team of Spain, where I have lived, and I followed him a bit when he was at Brighton and now Chelsea,” said Jorgensen.

“I know he is a very good goalkeeper and I hope we can learn from each other and produce the best versions of ourselves together.”
