The fight to keep the last bank in a Nottinghamshire town open is over after the unit was put up for sale. The Lloyds Banking Group branch, based in Station Street, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, announced late last year that it would close its branch on February 7, despite its standing in the town for generations.
Ultimately, despite pressure from Ashfield MP Lee Anderson and other councillors the branch did close its doors in February. Now, two months on, any hope of a reversal of their decision have been dashed after the unit has been advertised on Rightmove on a long-term lease.
Lloyds Banking Group confirmed that it would also shut 48 branches altogether in 2022. MP for Ashfield, Lee Anderson, along with other councillors, wrote to the bank in a bid to get officials to reverse their decision back in November, 2021, but with little success.
The 3,074sqft property is now available at £1,375 per calendar month and has a secure rear yard with three parking spaces. The advertisement on rightmove also reads: "Suitable for a variety of uses, subject to planning."
Lloyds Banking Group said that the reason for their decision was due to the changing ways in which customers now bank with them.
