A SENIOR Labour councillor who was seeking selection ahead of the General Election has reportedly had to withdraw from the contest in a row over his “sexy and Satanic” novels.
Altany Craik, who serves the Glenrothes West and Kinglassie ward and acts as finance spokesperson for Fife Council, had been involved in the selection process for the Glenrothes seat.
According to The Courier, Craik is expected to officially withdraw from his bid to become an MP for “family reasons”.
However insiders say the councillor is having to stand down because the party has concerns over his novels.
Craik has written around 16 books, of which many follow the story of a priest investigating the occult.
He describes himself as an author of “supernatural horror and crime in a gritty modern setting”.
But a source alleged that Labour HQ feel the writer’s books are “too sexy and Satanic”.
They told The Courier: “It’s absolutely disgusting.
“He’s been allowed to stand in the past but he’s now suddenly being told he’s not suitable because of books he’s been writing for about 15 years.”
Craik has previously been chosen to run in both Westminster and Scottish Parliament elections.
A spokesperson for Scottish Labour said: “Selection processes for Scottish Labour parliamentary candidates are properly administered in full accordance with procedures set by the Scottish Executive Committee.”
