FIFA World Cup 2026 results: Who won yesterday? France, Norway and England book quarter-final berths

The FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 delivered another day of high drama as France, Norway and England booked their places in the quarter-finals with hard-fought victories. Kylian Mbappe fired France past Paraguay, Erling Haaland inspired a stunning Norway comeback against Brazil, while England edged hosts Mexico in a five-goal thriller despite playing with 10 men.

Here's a look at yesterday's FIFA World Cup 2026 results and today's Round of 16 fixtures in Indian Standard Time (IST).

France 1-0 Paraguay

Kylian Mbappe scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the second half as France defeated Paraguay 1-0 in Philadelphia to reach the quarter-finals.

France dominated possession throughout but struggled to break down Paraguay's disciplined 5-4-1 defensive setup. The breakthrough finally came after the interval when Mbappe calmly converted from the spot to register his 19th World Cup goal in as many appearances.

Paraguay, who had knocked out Germany in the previous round, were unable to produce another upset as France held on to set up a quarter-final clash against Morocco.

Norway 2-1 Brazil

Erling Haaland scored twice late in the game as Norway stunned Brazil 2-1 at MetLife Stadium, ending the five-time champions' campaign in the Round of 16.

Brazil had reached at least the quarter-finals in each of the last eight World Cups, a streak dating back to 1994. Haaland's late brace ended that remarkable run and sent Norway into the last eight.

Neymar converted a stoppage-time penalty for Brazil to become only the second Brazilian after Pelé to score in four different FIFA World Cups. Shortly after the final whistle, Neymar announced his retirement from international football.

England 3-2 Mexico

England national football team defeated hosts Mexico national football team 3-2 at Estadio Azteca despite being reduced to 10 men.

Jude Bellingham scored twice, while Harry Kane added a penalty as England secured a memorable victory to reach the quarter-finals, where they will face Norway.

The defeat was Mexico's first loss of the tournament.
