High-profile FIFA 23 players are taking to social media to report they've been hacked, following a similar EA Sports FIFA hacking incident last year.
Professional FIFA 23 players such as FIFA eWorld Champion MoAuba (@MoAuba) and Mohamed Diop (@KingCJ0) say they have been impacted. Other prominent FIFA individuals such as Elias Nerlich (@EliasN97), @FUTDonkey, @MarcFUTTrader1 and @GamerBr0ski have also tweeted claims in recent days about their FIFA 23 Ultimate Team accounts being hacked.
The individuals who say they are impacted are suggesting that their account details have been compromised and that they've been the subject of an account takeover of their PSN account.
The Mirror covered a similar hacking incident last year where several high-profile FIFA 22 players and traders were hacked, with EA Sports subsequently confirming to Mirror that some accounts were compromised through phishing techniques including threats and social engineering, via EA Help live chat.
The likes of @FUTDonkey and @MarcFUTtTrader1 say they have seen their FIFA 23 Ultimate Team accounts stripped of coins, despite having two-factor authentication to protect their account.
Professional FIFA player Mohamed Diop (@KingCJ0) has documented claims that their PlayStation and FIFA 23 Ultimate Team accounts have been hacked on Twitter, with Mohamed posting a video which appears to show a third-party accessing their account and listing their most valuable FIFA 23 Ultimate Team player items, including FUT Icon Ronaldo, on the FUT 23 transfer market without their consent.
Mohamed previously posted a screenshot of their FUT 23 mobile app, which showed that they weren't able to log in, as someone else was signed into the account on a different console or PC.
Mohamed also posted a screenshot which shows a number of texts received from Sony and PlayStation, which appears to show someone trying to access the account, as there are a number of verification codes and other 2-step verification notifications.
It appears that the individuals are attempting to access, and in some cases successfully accessing, these accounts by attempting to change personal details such as email addresses and phone numbers, via the PlayStation Support live chat system.
These same methods were used during the FIFA 22 hacking scandal earlier this year - the 'hackers' would use the EA Help live chat, give the EA Helper their target Gamertag, and ask for the email address to be changed. At this stage, additional security questions should be asked before this personal information is changed, but it appears that this process may not be being followed.
Most of the impacted players appear to be losing all the coins in their FIFA 23 Ultimate Team clubs, with some high-profile FIFA 23 traders reportedly losing tens of millions of coins over the last few days. Although these coins appear to have no real-world value, there are a number of websites that buy coins from FIFA 23 Ultimate Team players. But, it's against EA Sports' terms and conditions to either sell or buy, FIFA Coins.
FIFA Ultimate Team trader @FUTDonkey, who was impacted by the FIFA 22 hacking scandal earlier this year, has also reported that their account has been compromised, and has posted screenshots showing other traders losing millions of coins.
Another FIFA Ultimate Team trader, @MarcFUTTrader1, contacted EA about the issue and received a response saying there was no sign of them being hacked, and his account has been rightfully banned.
"Got a response from EA. They say they didn't find any sign that my account got hacked and I have been rightfully banned," tweeted MarcFUTTrader1.
"This is ridiculous. I sent them proof but they seem to not care."
Mirror has contacted Sony regarding this issue but has yet to respond.
