Emergency services are on the scene of a crash involving six trucks that has closed the Hume Highway in both directions southwest of Goulburn.
The crash occurred just after 5am on Tuesday, June 30 at Breadalbane, some 15km from Goulburn, near the Windmills rest area.
Police said emergency services were called to the scene following reports a truck had crashed into several parked vehicles at a rest area.
A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson said it appeared two trucks collided and careered into five other rigs at the roadside rest stop.
Police have confirmed all drivers have been accounted for.
The spokesperson said one truck was carrying eight tonnes of butane cans, another was transporting resin, a third contained memory foam and a fourth was packed with alcohol, fuelling the resulting fire and explosions.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said paramedics assessed six people who were uninjured and didn't require transport to hospital.
Some 65 firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze. A 300-metre exclusion zone has been put in place.
Two drivers were taken to Goulburn hospital for mandatory testing.
RFS Southern Tablelands Inspector George Shepherd said seven trucks were involved, five of which had caught fire. All trucks were destroyed.
Eleven RFS units, comprising two bulk water tankers and 25 personnel are at the crash site. Mr Shepherd said one vehicle had been carrying chemicals, while another had gas cylinders.
"Fire and Rescue are doing the firefighting and we're assisting with breathing apparatus," he said
Mr Shepherd expected the firefighting and clean-up to be protracted.
NSW Fire and Rescue confirmed 44 of its personnel were on scene, as were Hazmat resources and several bulk water tankers. A specialist Hazmat tanker was also enroute from Oran Park and an assistant commissioner was on his way.
A police crash investigation unit is enroute to the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and to divert using the Barton Highway and Federal Highway via Canberra, in both directions.
Live Traffic advises the diversion is suitable for all vehicles up to 26-metre B-doubles. Motorists already in the area should follow the directions of emergency services and traffic crews on site.
Travellers are advised to allow approximately 80 minutes of additional travel time.
Ongoing police investigations, vehicle salvage and clean-up are expected to take some time.
