'Fields of Mistria' Reviews: Is the Full Game Worth the Two-Year Wait?

Many games that release initially on Early Access end up there for more than one year. A perfect example is "Fields of Mistria," which stayed in Early Access for two years.

Now that the full game has been released, is it worth the wait for critics and gamers alike?

'Fields of Mistria'

Released as a full game on August 5, 2026, "Fields of Mistria" is a farm life simulation role-playing video game developed and published by NPC Studio.

The game is set in the village of Mistria, which has been damaged by a devastating earthquake. According to NPC Studio, the player receives an overgrown homestead and helps restore the town while strange magic begins flowing through the land. The story also follows the lives of Mistria's residents as the player builds relationships with them.

Players can farm, fish, mine, craft, raise animals, and explore ancient ruins while helping rebuild Mistria. The game also features magic spells, seasonal festivals, romance, and combat against enemies in the mines and ruins. According to the official "Fields of Mistria" website, players can meet more than 30 villagers and pursue relationships with 12 marriage candidates.

What Do the Critics Say?

Despite the long wait for the full game, "Fields of Mistria" has received positive reviews from critics.

PC Gamer's Lauren Morton gave the game a rating of 89%, noting that "'Fields of Mistria' is the first farm sim in a lot of years that's made me want to spend time in town visiting with its cast even after I've gotten rich off shipping berries to the capitol. It's a fresh lease on farm sims in a shojo manga fever dream."

Over at Metacritic, the game has a score of 89 based on five critic reviews as of press time.

Siliconera gave "Fields of Mistria" a score of 100, praising it for being "an exceptional farming game sim that stands tall among titles like Stardew Valley and the best Story of Seasons entries."

"It's gorgeous. The gameplay loop is sharp. The characters are lovable," Siliconera said in its review. "The sense of growth and progression is satisfying. 'Fields of Mistria' is a fantastic way to spend 20, 50, or 100 hours of your life.

'Overwhelmingly Positive' Reviews on Steam

Over at Steam, "Fields of Mistria" has more than 33,000 user reviews as of writing. Steam has classified them as "Overwhelmingly Positive."

"This game is often called a 'Stardew Valley clone,' and I don't think that's fair at all," Steam user chaseit said in a Steam review. "In my opinion, 'Fields of Mistria' is a love letter to 'Harvest Moon' and 'Animal Crossing,' and builds on 'Stardew Valley's' already fantastic foundations to create something really special."

Steam user Commander Beatdown describes "Fields of Mistria" as "Seriously good in ways that outshine other games in the same genre."

"There isn't a bad character to be found. The dialogue is expansive and genuinely well written," Commander Beatdown explained in a review. "The 80's anime style is a serious breath of fresh air compared to the tired millennial art style found in other games, and there's a sincerity to the whole tone that makes today's de-rigueur meta-humor, 4th wall-breaking, genre-savvy cynicism seem like a bygone relic of a darker age."
