Formula 1 governing body FIA has delayed revealing its findings over whether cost caps were breached last season until next week.
The FIA had said it would award certificates of compliance regarding teams who had worked within the £114million budget cap last season.
Rumours emerged over the weekend that both Red Bull and Aston Martin had exceeded that figure but both teams denied any wrongdoing.
Reports suggested Red Bull had surpassed it by millions leading to suggestions they could be docked points in the constructors’ championship and face a heavy fine, with Max Verstappen’s drivers’ tile even supposedly under threat.
Red Bull remained adamant in the wake of Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix that they had been well within the budget limit with team principal Christian Horner threatening legal action against those saying otherwise.
The saga now looks set to drag on with the FIA further delaying the process until next Monday.
Despite the delay in the findings, Red Bull are not expected to face any major sanction, with reports that they were either guilty of a minor breach or else did not exceed the limitations at all.
In a statement, the FIA said: “The analysis of financial submissions is a long and complex process that is ongoing and will be concluded to enable the release of the certificates on Monday October 10.
“The financial regulations were agreed unanimously by all competitors, who have worked positively and collaboratively with the FIA cost cap administration throughout this first year under the financial regulations.
“As previously communicated, there has been significant and unsubstantiated speculation and conjecture in relation to this matter, and the FIA reiterates that until it is finalised, no further information will be provided. The FIA also reiterates that any suggestion that FIA personnel have disclosed sensitive information is equally baseless.”
