West Coast Fever will head back to Perth in touch with the Super Netball competition leaders after winning a see-sawing battle 58-54 against Sunshine Coast Lightning.

The Fever cemented third spot on the ladder with Lightning missing a chance to draw level with the fourth-placed Melbourne Mavericks, with the top four playing finals.

Sunshine Coast also blew a golden chance to end their losing streak against the Fever, which is now out to 11 games.

West Coast led 13-12 at quarter-time with Lightning goal attack Cara Koenen finishing the period with a swelling black eye after taking a blow.

The Diamonds representative played on and combined with Donnell Wallam to help swing momentum back the Lightning's way, with the crowd on their feet as they sunk eight of the last 10 goals of the second term to take a 31-26 lead into halftime.

Lightning defender Courtney Bruce also did well to keep a lid on Sasha Glasgow's shooting, with the Test star finishing the match with nine gains, three intercepts and eight deflections.

But the Fever shone after the long break, winning the third quarter 17-13 to take a two-goal lead into the last change.

Up 53-52 with less than four minutes remaining, Fever goal-shooter Romelda Aiken-George stepped up to slot five successive goals to give her team a winning margin.

The Jamaican great finished with 51 goals from 61 attempts while Wallam top-scored for the Lightning with 44 from 52.

Sunshine Coast's quest wasn't helped by their ill discipline, clocking 74 penalties to 46 as well as 10 unforced turnovers for the game.

Fever twins Jordan and Zoe Cransberg impressed in a mid-court featuring Diamonds skipper Liz Watson.

Centre Zoe was named player of the match and was delighted to extend the Fever's streak over the Lightning, which dates back to round 10 in 2021.

The visitors were also happy to bounce back after a six-point loss at home to the Melbourne Vixens last round.

"We've been pretty good here but it's a completely new team and I think Lightning games are always close, just one or two goals," the 26-year-old said.

"Going into the last (quarter) we knew it was going to be a fight and we wanted to build on last week as we didn't have our best performance, so just go out there and finish under pressure.

"We're really, really happy."
