In the world of hip-hop, feuds and rivalries are not uncommon. And one ongoing feud that has caught the attention of fans is the one between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. Once dubbed as the queens of 'Hot Girl Summer,' things have definitely cooled down between these two powerhouse artists.
The latest escalation in their feud occurred recently, when Megan dropped her latest single, 'Hiss,' which features snake-themed lyrics. In the first verse of the song, she raps, 'These hoes don't be mad at Megan / These hoes mad at Megan's Law.' This line was quickly interpreted as a not-so-subtle dig at Nicki Minaj's husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a registered sex offender. It refers to Megan's Law, a government initiative from the '90s that requires law enforcement to share information about registered sex offenders with the public.
Nicki Minaj wasted no time in responding to the perceived diss. She took to Instagram Live to share a snippet of an unreleased song, where she raps, 'Bad bitch she like 6 foot / I call her big foot / The bitch fell off / I said get up on your good foot.' This verse seemingly refers to the unfortunate incident when Megan was shot in the foot by rapper Tory Lanez in 2020. Lanez was later found guilty of assault charges and sentenced to prison.
As if playing the unreleased song wasn't enough, Nicki Minaj also insulted Megan's flow and her skills as a rapper during the live session. She specifically mentioned Megan having three Grammy awards but criticized her ability to stay on beat and be comfortable in her music. To add insult to injury, Minaj went on a liking spree on social media, approving posts that mocked Megan's appearance and the incident with Tory Lanez.
However, Megan seemingly took the high road and responded to the jabs in a different way. On her Instagram Story, she posted a photo of herself laughing, indicating that she was brushing off Minaj's barbs and not allowing them to affect her.
The real cause of the falling out between Minaj and Megan is still unclear. Many fans speculate that their dynamic turned sour after Megan collaborated with Cardi B on the hit single 'WAP' in 2020, which caused some tension between her and Minaj. In fact, Minaj seemed to take a swipe at the collaboration in her song 'Red Ruby da Sleeze' from 2023, where she rapped about not wanting to associate with certain people.
Whatever the reasons may be, it's clear that there is no love lost between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj. And while their feud may continue to play out in the public eye, it's important to remember that in the world of hip-hop, rivalries come and go, but the music and talent of these artists remain the true focus.
