Festival fun as 20,000 people flock to Strathclyde Park for weekend event

Thousands of summer-loving Lanarkshire locals packed into Strathclyde Country Park for a weekend of fun and entertainment.

The Big Family Festival brought together the best food, music and activities from across the country to create two family friendly day outs on August 6 and 7.

A spectacular bike show and climbing wall proved particularly popular with locals flocking to the area throughout the days.

And there was plenty for the little ones to get involved in as youngsters enjoyed face painting, crafts, inflatables, circus performers, and lots more.

Around 20,000 people visited the country park at the weekend, with the event being hailed as a huge success.

Originally planned as a ticketed event, organisers North Lanarkshire Council decided to extend the site to allow for extra capacity over the weekend, allowing people to attend at their leisure.

Vicky Abernethy, Greenspace and Country Park Manager, told Lanarkshire Live: “We were delighted that the event ran smoothly, with around 20,000 people visiting over the weekend.

"We really wanted to deliver a weekend of family fun in the height of summer and it was truly wonderful to see so many people visit the park, enjoy the terrific setting and especially to watch the smiling faces of children as they cavorted on the inflatables and threw themselves into the water sports.

"We hope the event has encouraged people to return to the park and enjoy being active throughout the year.

“The feedback from people has been great and it’s clear that everyone enjoyed the range of food, drink and crafts on offer from the stalls. We’re so glad the weather stayed dry, which is always a blessing!”

Our photographer Douglas McKendrick was there to capture all the action. Check out our photo gallery below for all the best pictures from the weekend.
