Ferne McCann has bravely opened up about her therapy journey and said it has helped her to become "less reactive and more responsive".
The former TOWIE star, who has been in therapy for six years, admitted she feels like it's her "duty" to share her journey in the hopes of combating the stigma around mental health treatment.
In an exclusive look at tonight's episode of First Time Mum, Ferne and her fiancé Lorri Haines embark on couples therapy in order to strengthen their relationship.
Taking time out from their business trip to India, the couple take part in the sessions which help Ferne to rediscover herself and realise what's truly important to her.
Speaking about her experience, Ferne told The Mirror: "I've found that there’s a stigma around therapy here in the UK.
"I have been in therapy for six years and I think even that "in therapy", people seem to think that there's something wrong with you, or you've hit rock bottom, or you've had a breakdown when that wasn't actually the case for me, especially for couples therapy with me and Lorri.
"For me it’s been a really positive experience and it’s definitely made me less reactive and more responsive and I feel like I've really matured.
"The more I do, the more I just feel stronger mentally."
Ferne made the decision to open up about her therapy experiences after feeling like it was her "duty" to show that "life is not all singing, loveliness and fairy tales".
"Life is very different now and people carry a lot of burdens. Life can feel overwhelming for a lot of people," she said.
"I feel very grateful to my fanbase and to those that follow the show, it just makes everything worthwhile because everyone goes through tough times."
Ferne admitted that she "laid my cards on the table" when she met Lorri, allowing them to truly open up to each other, which has led to "a very healthy relationship".
"We were sort of like, 'here I am, warts and all'.
"That's what sort of bonded us, was through our hard times and sharing them with each other and being completely transparent."
Ferne said couples therapy has been very beneficial to their relationship and has enabled them to "navigate through the good times and the bad times".
She told us: "To do it together, for me, it wasn't because there was something wrong, or we'd had a breakdown. It was more for prevention and to preserve our relationship.
"Having that couples therapy has been a really positive experience for us because it's just helped us to work together."
Ferne and Lorri are also going into business with one another and are set to launch their own wellness app, Shoorah, in the summer.
"I think therapy was one of the big catalysts for Shoorah," Ferne said. "When we met each other, I shared with Lorri my love of meditation and journaling and applying these tools to my life and he was really interested in hearing more.
"I just love that about him and we knew that we wanted to do something together."
She said they wanted to create the platform in order to share their own therapy experiences and help others.
"We wanted to create something that people can access at any time because I understand that therapy isn't accessible to absolutely everyone," Ferne added.
The wellness app will feature advice from a variety of experts, including life coaches, neuroscientists and meditation experts.
