Fern Britton enjoys a fresh start to the year as she embraces single life and settles into her new home in Cornwall.

The author shared a sweet photo of her with her daughter Winnie, 20 and one of her twin sons, 28, during a chilly walk along the sea front.

"Flipping freezing on Boxing Day beach. My New Year resolution is to get to grips with Insta," she wrote in the caption.

Fern, 65, used to live in Buckinghamshire with ex husband Phil Vickery, who she shares Winnie with.

The couple split after being together for over two decades, with Fern telling fans: "After more than 20 happy years together, Phil and I have decided to go our separate ways.

Fern and Phil's split came as a huge shock, as they had been together for such a long time and had great chemistry together.

Speaking of the split from her TV chef husband, Fern told the Loose Women: "My marriage coming to the end of the road is very sad. But we are working it all out.

"My life did go upside down, not just unfortunately with my marriage going wrong.

She said that she and Phil Vickery are still friends (@Fern_Britton/Twitter)

"My mum died three years ago, and my dad died two years ago this Christmas. He died on December 22.

"So, I am having to... I think after 30 years of being married but to two different men, 33 years altogether.

"Wonderful men I have to say. Wonderful, interesting, and clever men. I am having to do a lot on my own. Make my own decisions and so."

She added: "I miss not being able to ring my mum and not being able to say to my father, 'How do you think I should do that?' It is normal, but grief takes you in funny ways.

"You think, 'I am okay.' And then suddenly a wave of it bangs into your face. And you start to cry a bit," she added.

To celebrate her new life by the coast, Fern is set to appear on TV tonight with her second series of My Cornwall With Fern Britton.
