'Felt like I owed it': Scotland star returns to former club in surprise switch

Glasgow City FC have pulled off a major coup, announcing the return of Scotland international Lisa Evans on a three-year deal.

A former Glasgow City player, Evans spent the early part of her career at the club, winning an impressive haul of four Scottish Women's Premier League (SWPL) titles, two Scottish Cups, and two SWPL Cups during a hugely successful spell.

She then moved to German side Turbine Potsdam in 2012. Since then, Evans has gone on to earn 109 caps for Scotland and win league titles with both Bayern Munich and Arsenal.

Most recently, she played in the English Women's Super League with West Ham United and Bristol City.

Her decision to come back to Glasgow City has certainly raised eyebrows, given her impressive resume at the highest levels of the game.

However, the player herself is "absolutely buzzing" to return to her roots and give back to the team that once dominated the Scottish women's football landscape.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to be back, it’s been a while and I know things have changed massively with the club but I’m really excited to be back," the 32-year-old commented.

“Having started my journey in professional football with Glasgow City it was always something that I wanted to do, to come back and be part of it all again. I wanted to give back to the club for everything that they have done for me.

“I’ve had a great playing career in Germany and down south and I felt like I owed it in some way to come back and to help Glasgow City get success again.”

With her proven track record of success, both domestically and internationally, Evans' return to Glasgow City is sure to be a major boost as they aim to regain the SWPL title and make an impact across several cup competitions.

"We are all excited to welcome Lisa back home to Glasgow City," the Petershill Park boss said.

"A product of our youth academy, Lisa played her way into the first team, and soon became a fans favourite with her pacey, energetic attacking style of play and ability to create and score goals.

"Having forged a successful career in the Frauen Bundesliga, WSL, and on the international stage, Lisa returns to City still a top talent, but also with a wealth of experience from her time in elite club and national team environments.

"With the ability to play full back, wing back or winger, Lisa’s quality, experience and versatility will be a major asset to the team for the season ahead. I am delighted Lisa has chosen to return to Glasgow City, I can’t wait to work with her once again and see the positive influence she can have on our players and environment. "
