Regret can get louder after 50, especially when life slows down enough to leave room for some honest scorekeeping. A career decision that once seemed perfectly sensible, a friendship that quietly disappeared, or a health habit that seemed harmless at 35 can suddenly look very different in the rearview mirror.
That does not mean every man over 50 walks around carrying a suitcase full of remorse. Research on aging and regret shows plenty of variation, and gender differences do not always produce neat, universal patterns. Still, certain themes keep appearing, particularly around relationships, work, health, family, and opportunities that never received a proper chance.
