Feed the Future, a campaign by a coalition of groups led by the Food Foundation, are calling on the Government to extend free school meals to all pupils in England whose parents are on Universal Credit — a move that would help the 800,000 children who, though they live in poverty, are not eligible for a free lunch.
At a special event where attendees were either given a hot meal or a packed lunch - to simulate the uncertainty faced in the school canteen - young ambassadors spoke to politicians about their experiences with free school meals. Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge also threw his voice behind the campaign.
