Federal prosecutors are arguing that a well-known music mogul should not be released on bail due to concerns about witness intimidation and fear. The prosecutors revealed that the investigation uncovered disturbing evidence of alleged assaults by the mogul, including choking, hitting, kicking, and dragging victims by their hair.
Assistant US Attorney Emily Johnson informed the judge that witnesses have expressed universal fear of the defendant. The prosecutors highlighted instances where the mogul reached out to victims following legal actions against him. In one case, after a former music group member filed a lawsuit, the mogul contacted another band member multiple times in a short period.
The civil lawsuit filed in New York federal court accuses the mogul of serious offenses such as sexual battery, sexual harassment, and false imprisonment. Prosecutors also revealed that the mogul attempted to influence another victim who was financially dependent on him to provide false statements regarding their interactions.
Prosecutor Johnson emphasized the potential danger if the mogul were to be released on bail, citing similar high-profile cases where defendants were detained pending trial. The comparison was drawn to cases involving individuals like R. Kelly, Jeffrey Epstein, and Keith Raniere.
