A federal law enforcement agency has confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding an incident from two decades ago where he allegedly removed the head of a dead whale and transported it home. The former independent presidential candidate revealed this investigation while campaigning for Donald Trump outside Phoenix.
The incident was brought to light by Kennedy's daughter in a 2012 interview with Town and Country magazine, which recently resurfaced on social media. She recounted how, at the age of 6, her father learned of a dead whale washing ashore. Kennedy then proceeded to use a chainsaw to detach the whale's head and secured it on the roof of their minivan for a five-hour journey home.
According to Kathleen Kennedy, the transportation of the whale head was a challenging experience as whale juice would seep into the vehicle whenever they accelerated, resulting in a pungent odor. Despite the discomfort, the family continued their journey with plastic bags over their heads to shield themselves from the smell, while facing disapproving gestures from other motorists.
A spokesperson for the National Marine Fisheries Service confirmed that an investigation is ongoing but refrained from providing further details due to the agency's policy on open investigations. The agency, which enforces laws such as the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act, falls under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
During his address to a crowd of Trump supporters in Glendale, Arizona, Kennedy mentioned receiving a letter notifying him of the investigation related to the whale specimen collected two decades ago. While Kennedy neither confirmed nor denied his involvement in the incident, he pointed out that the statute of limitations for any potential charges had expired. He insinuated, without substantiation, a connection between the investigation and his endorsement of Trump.
When pressed by reporters for further information about the investigation, Kennedy declined to provide additional details, expressing his disinterest in engaging with what he referred to as 'gossipy nonsense' from the media.
This peculiar incident involving the whale carcass adds to a series of unusual encounters between Kennedy and deceased animals. In a recent revelation, Kennedy recounted a past incident where he placed a bear carcass, struck by a vehicle, in New York's Central Park along with a bicycle on top, sparking a mystery that captivated the city a decade ago.
