A Midlothian Aldi has put a temporary ban on unaccompanied schoolchildren, stating a string of issues as the cause.
The ban currently extends outside school hours, and will see kids visiting the Dalkeith supermarket require the company of a parent or guardian at all times. Locals believe repeated thefts have contributed to the policy.
It was unclear how long the rule will be in place for - though local residents have already spoken out against the changes at the Thornybank Industrial Estate outlet.

A spokesperson for Aldi said: “There isn’t a ban on schoolchildren, the store is just asking for pupils to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the time being due to a few recent issues.”
Since opening in 2021, the store has been popular with local residents as well as schoolchildren from the neighbouring educational campus.
