It is time for the first half term of 2023 and the first break since returning back to school after Christmas. Although the weather might not be the best, there is plenty to enjoy this February half term.
From activities indoors to ones where you can brave the weather and free activities to those that will keep the children busy all day here is a round-up of some of the best things to do to keep all the family entertained. In Wales, the February 2023 half term will begin on Monday, February 20 and end on Friday, February 24. Here are some of the best activities to enjoy in Wales during that time.
Croeso Festival - Swansea
A free two-day festival is coming to Swansea featuring big-name chefs and live music. Celebrating all things Welsh, the event will take place on Friday, February 24, and Saturday, February 25.
Running each day from 11am until 4pm, the event will feature food and drink at its heart with a dedicated marquee in Portland Street for a packed programme of cooking demonstrations. You can read more here.
Up, balloon workshops and St David's Day celebrations at National Waterfront Museum - Swansea
Plenty is going on at the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea this half term. You can enjoy a free showing of the film Up on Sunday, February 19 at 2.30pm, and balloon arts and crafts every day from Monday, February 20 to Wednesday, February 22 from 12.30pm to 3.30pm.
There are also lots of St David's day events taking place including making a dragon headdress every day from Friday, February 24 to Sunday, February 26 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, learning the national anthem on Saturday, February 25 at 11am and the St David's Day party from 12pm to 4pm on Sunday, February 26.
Wildlife arts and crafts, mindfulness art and soft play yoga at Margam Park
Margam Park also has lots going on in the February half term. On Monday, February 20 you can make a mask of your favourite animal, on Tuesday, February 21 you can learn about mindfulness art and enjoy soft play yoga and on Thursday, February 23 you can enjoy the interactive storytelling of Goldilocks and the Magic Porridge Pot.
School of Magic at Gwrych Castle
You can head to Gwrych Castle every day in half term to enjoy the School of Magic. There will be characters to meet, spellbinding challenges/lessons, and you can attend the Broom Flight school. There is also a magic school scavenger hunt with items hidden throughout the visitor route.
The event is running from 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 4pm. Tickets cost £5 for children, £10 for adults and £8 for concessions while children under three go free.
Amelia Trust Farm - Barry
There is plenty going on at Amelia Trust Farm in Barry this half term. You can enjoy Teddy Time where children will make their teddy bear, name their bear, and then design and make a t-shirt to suit their bear.
All children will leave the activity with their beautiful teddy bear, a certificate, and a teddy bear-themed activity pack that they can finish at home. The session will last for two hours and is suitable for children aged 4 and older. Taking place on Thursday, February 23, the tickets are £30.
The farm is also running Football Fun on Friday, February 24. The sessions will be led by professional football coaches and tickets cost £15.
Glyndwr the miniature steam engine at South Wales Miners' Museum - Port Talbot
If you have a youngster who loves trains, head to the South Wales Miners' Museum in Port Talbot. On Wednesday, February 22, the miniature steam train Glyndwr will be in action.

St David's Day celebrations at Castle Coch - near Cardiff
To help you and your family celebrate St David's Day Castle Coch is running some great events on Saturday, February 25, from 11am to 3pm. There will be lots of craft events, including making a daffodil, live Welsh folk music, face painting and a quest around the castle.
Entry to the castle costs £8.30 for adults, £5.80 for juniors, £7.70 for seniors and a family ticket is £27.40. Children aged under five have free entry.
Disney on Ice - Cardiff
While some people may be jetting off to Paris or Florida to see the esteemed cast of Disney, you won't have to as Disney on Ice is coming to Cardiff this February half term. Disney on Ice, 'Discover the Magic' is a spectacle of beloved stories of everybody's favourite Disney characters told with astounding professional ice skating
The Cardiff International Arena will be showing the production from Thursday, February 23 to Sunday, February 23 with showtimes starting at 10.30am and ending at 6.30pm, with ticket prices ranging from £28.50 to £56. Find out more here.
Magic show at Mumbles Pier
Magician Simon Sparkles will be performing a "jaw-dropping" live magic show at Mumbles pier this half term. Children's tickets are just £2 for the half-hour show and the first performance has already sold out. There are still tickets available for Wednesday, February 22, which you can book online.
Farm Day at Folly Farm - Pembrokeshire
For a fun-packed day of meeting animals, exploring tractors, arts and crafts and more, head to Folly Farm for their Farm Day. The Farm Day is running from 10am to 4.30pm on Wednesday, February 22 and prices for the farm cost £23.95 for adults, £21.95 for children, £14.95 for toddlers and a family ticket is £88.
The Mab Trail - Rhondda Cyon Taff
The newly launched Mab Trail is the perfect interactive literary art trail to complete with the whole family this half term. The trail sees a series of interactive story stones and boards placed across Pontypridd, sharing local myths and legends of the town. The Mab Trail starts and finishes at Pontypridd Museum. From there, you can follow the trail to Ynysangharad Park, where four-story stones can be found. On Berw Road Field, story hunters will find three stones and four-story stones at Pontypridd Common.
Montgomery Bonbon: Museum Mystery Trail - Cardiff
To celebrate the release of comedian, Alasdair Beckett-King's first children's book, 'Murder at the Museum', there will be a mystery trial set up in the Museum of Cardiff on The Hayes. From Saturday, February 18 to Sunday, February 26, children can solve puzzles, fill in activity sheets and have fun with their family for free during the Montgomery Bonbon: Museum Mystery Trail organised by Kids in Museums and Walker Books. Fun day in Gorseinon
Kids can meet their favourite TV and film characters like Paddington and Stitch at this fun-filled event in Gorseinon between 12pm and 3pm on Thursday, February 23. There will be three hours of unlimited rides and the event, which is suitable for children under 11, costs £12.50 per child. For more info call 07854460512.
RSPB Conwy
Lots is going on at RSPB Conwy this half term. On Thursday, February, 23 you can enjoy a bug safari, suitable for children aged six to 12 and on Friday, February 24, it is FunPlay Friday which will have den building, badge making and more.
It costs £6 for adults and £3 for children, children aged under five go free.
Sherman Theatre - Cardiff
The Sherman Theatre is celebrating 50 years this year since opening as a popular venue in the heart of Cardiff, where children and adults can enjoy engaging productions. This half term is no different as they host numerous shows for children and adults to enjoy.
With younger children prone to leaving their seats, the 'Egg and Spoon' interactive production is perfect for ages one to five. The 'Egg and Spoon', which will be performed on Monday, February 20 and Tuesday, February 21, allows its audiences to play through the seasons introducing them to the magic of the theatre.
The Welsh production, Where The Leaves Blow/Ble Mae'r Dail yn Hedfan, has also toured the world and is returning in time for half term to the Sherman Theatre. The 'funny, magical and musical' performance will be available in either English or Welsh on Wednesday, February 23 and Thursday, February 24, suitable for ages two to eight and families. Both productions' ticket prices are £9.50 each.
SC2 Rhyl
During the half term, SC2 in Rhyl is opening its waterpark. The waterpark will be open every day from 11am to 6pm. Prices start at £11.50 for adults, £9 for juniors, £4.95 for under threes and £1.95 for under ones.
Space Club - Cardiff Bay
From Saturday, February 18, to Sunday, February 26, Mermaid Quay will transform into a Space Club for children to take an adventure around our solar system. Visitors of the attraction will have the chance to enter a competition showing off their colouring skills as well as a treasure hunt.
Different space-themed activities will take place between 12pm and 4pm from Thursday, February 23 to Saturday, February 25. Children will join astronauts on their way to Mars, hop from star to star and take part in an alien investigation, exploring planets through interactive games, space walking and stories. They can also make their own rocket and slime or be painted like an alien with free face painting, as well as dressing up as an astronaut and venture through space with a VR headset.
Welsh Mountain Zoo - Colwyn Bay
The Welsh Mountain Zoo is running a love-themed activity worksheet and there will be crafts in the Wild Centre on Monday, February 20, Wednesday February 22 and Friday, February 24 from 2pm to 3pm. Tickets to the zoo cost £17.48 for adults and £13.16 for children.
Cardiff Science Festival
Across various Cardiff locations, free science-based events will be taking place for every age group to enjoy as part of the Cardiff Science festival from Saturday, February 18 to Wednesday, February 22.
Some of the events include; Maths Adventures Day, for a maths fun-filled day, Grangetown Hub's multiple events such as Reel Physics where you can learn the art behind making TikTok/reel videos and The Bones and Organs Project, teaching children about the human anatomy, Lush Spa Cardiff, where you can learn about the science behind the products sold at Lush Spa Cardiff and plenty more. Conwy Play Team
Conwy Play Team are running lots of different activities this half term. There are 'playful parents' sessions suitable for babies to children aged five in the mornings, 'playing out' sessions for youngsters aged five to 15 in the afternoons and 'have a go' sessions for children aged 11 plus in the evening.
Activities will take place at a variety of locations such as Eirias Park, Queens Park in Craig y Don, Oak Tree Centre in Rhyl, Tan y Fron Park in Deganwy and Trefriw play park. You can read the full timetable of activities here.
Redhouse Rock School-Merthyr Tydfil
Redhouse has launched a free two-day rock school for children who are interested in singing, playing electric guitars, bass guitars or drums. On Monday, February 20 ad Tuesday, February 21, children aged 10 to 13 have the opportunity to learn with a team of professional musicians and there's a separate session available for those aged 14+ on Wednesday, February 22 and Thursday, February 23.
