Newxastle United goalscoring legend Alan Shearer is a big fan of Newcastle United target Anthony Gordon - judging by his comments back in March. ChronicleLive understands discussions have taken place between the Magpies and Everton over a potential £35million move.
The winger enjoyed a fine breakthrough season at Goodison Park despite a difficult campaign overall for the Toffees, placing third - behind Richarlison and Jordan Pickford - in the Liverpool Echo’s player of the season poll. Reaction has been mixed among Toon supporters about whether Gordon would be a good fit on Tyneside.
Critics have concerns over the inflated price tag for a player who only has one full season of professional football under his belt. However, he has already showcased his talents on the international stage, bagging four goals in seven appearances for England U21s.

Newcastle legend Shearer praised the 21-year-old while speaking to the Premier League’s YouTube channel. The Magpies’ all-time leading goalscoring cited Gordon’s attitude as an attribute his former club could benefit.
“A young man that has been causing quite a bit of excitement is Anthony Gordon,” he said. “Everton fans have really gotten behind the winger who has shown passion and plenty of ability in what has been a tough season for the Toffees.
“I’ve personally been impressed by his fearless attitude, he’s not afraid to get stuck in and he tries to make things happen going forward, putting plenty of crosses into the box.”
