FDA Warns Against Microdosing Chocolate Bars After Hospitalizations

Signage is seen outside of FDA headquarters in White Oak, Maryland

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning regarding the consumption of 'microdosing' chocolate bars produced by Diamond Shruumz, which has led to a growing number of hospitalizations. Initially reported on June 7 with six cases, the FDA now confirms at least 10 individuals have been hospitalized after consuming these products, with an additional two seeking medical care.

The FDA advises the public to refrain from eating, selling, or serving Diamond Shruumz-Brand Microdosing Chocolate Bars due to the severe symptoms experienced by consumers. These symptoms include seizures, central nervous system depression, agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting.

Despite being marketed as 'microdosing' products, Diamond Shruumz claims that their chocolate bars do not contain psilocybin or any scheduled drugs. The company assures consumers of a safe and enjoyable experience, emphasizing the absence of psychedelic substances in their treats.

The FDA is actively investigating the cause of these illnesses and is considering further steps to address the situation. The agency's website indicates that hospitalizations have been reported in multiple states, including Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Arizona, and Indiana.

Both the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are working to determine the source of the issue. Despite attempts to reach out to Diamond Shruumz for comment, no response has been received at this time.
