The pill without a prescription: FDA OKs first nonprescription daily oral contraceptive

The FDA has approved the first over-the-counter birth control pill. Starting early next year, women will be able to buy the pills without a prescription. (AP)

The nation’s first over-the-counter birth control pill was approved Thursday — a landmark decision that will soon allow American women and girls to obtain contraceptive medication as easily as they buy aspirin and eyedrops.

The federal Food and Drug Administration OKed once-a-day Opill to be sold without a prescription.
