FC 27 Ultimate Team deep dive Pitch notes: FUT Gallery, SBC changes, and more

The Ultimate Team mode in FC 27 will retain its core characteristics from this year’s title, but there will be some important changes along the way. As always, EA Sports will be introducing some tweaks to how the existing systems work, and you can also expect entirely new additions.

All major changes and additions in FC 27 Ultimate Team mode

To help you understand the changes better, I have broken down this guide into three major parts.

  • You will find more ways to progress in Ultimate Team this year.
  • The progression will reward your time better.
  • You will have greater control over your squad.

More Ways to Progress

For the first time, we will have the FUT Gallery coming to FC 27. So far, any card we find has two main uses:

  • We can use it in our main team.
  • We can use it as fodder to complete SBCs.

The FUT Gallery will add a different meaning to the game and act as a collection that we will be gradually building over time. We can build different theme sets under the system that will be added to our gallery as we find new cards.

Once we complete more sets, we will be able to increase our grades. Sets will come in different clubs, nations, and more. The gallery will display all the major cards you have and also feature the completed sets.

To fill a set, you will need to submit cards from your club. This method is slightly different from completing SBCs because you don’t need to actually have the card presently in your collection.

For example, if I’m completing the La Liga set, then I can add any La Liga card that I had in my collection. Whether I own a specific card currently in my Ultimate Team club or not is not relevant. As long as it meets the requirements of the set, it can be used to fill in slots.

When you fill a card, it will grant you certain gallery points. The amount of gallery points you get will vary with the rarity and overall score of the card. The higher the overall score, the greater the score.

Once you get enough score on a set, you will hit different grades. Grades begin from tier D and go all the way up to S. As you hit different grades, you will earn club cosmetics and gallery tokens. These exclusive rewards will help you to further customize your items.

As of writing, we don’t know all the rewards that will be available for the set in exchange for the gallery tokens. However, we can use them to get all the new Hall of FUT items from the store.

Your gallery level will show a total score of all your sets that you may have. Look out for the special holographic items and promo cards for getting the highest amount of gallery scores.

Single-player live events are also coming to Ultimate Team. So far, all kinds of live events typically put you up against a human opponent. This has been the trend with FC 26, but it changes next year.

You will go up against the AI across different rounds, and the difficulty will progressively increase. Qualify for the final, and you will be facing an AI-controlled squad at Ultimate difficulty. Suffice to say that it won’t be easy to beat the AI at that difficulty level.

This provides something for those Ultimate Team players who don’t necessarily like to engage in Live Events due to its PvP aspect. Moreover, it could also provide an additional way for you to enjoy AI events apart from squad battles.

Better progression

Completing SBC can be a headache, especially during the early parts of the cycle, but that will change with FC 27. The new system will require you to hit a score by submitting different cards. The rarity, chemistry, and other requirements will be completely removed under the system.

For example, let’s suppose that a particular player’s SBC requests you to reach the score of 500. Whether you do so by submitting 50 silver items, 10 gold items, or 2 promo items is completely up to you. All that matters is for you to reach the score.

Not only does the new system make completing SBCs easier, but you can also use fodder that can’t be used elsewhere. For example, I currently have over 500 silver cards sitting in my Ultimate Team Club in FC 26 that have no other use apart from daily SBCs. In FC 27, those cards can go towards completing the potential FUTTIES SBC that we currently have.

Moreover, the new system doesn’t require you to complete an SBC at once. Hence, you can clear your SBC storage as and when required.

Meaningful progression has been a massive request from the community in the past. To address them, here are a few steps that the developers will be taking.

  • Endgame items will be approximately 20% less boosted than what they currently are. This makes all cards stay relevant for a longer time.
  • Unlike this year, an Ultimate Team Card can have a maximum of three PlayStyles+, and the upgrades will be much more focused.
  • FC 27 will have approximately five fewer campaign weeks, allowing you to have more time between different promos.

For starters, the progression system will be much more balanced than what we have this year. Evolutions have been key to Ultimate Team, and they will continue to be so. No feature, including the upgrades, will invalidate another.

The aim for next year will be to have smaller squads with a tighter overall spread. The wide swing that we have seen in Ultimate Team over the last few years should cease to exist in FC 27.

This also means that any card you obtain, including SBCs and objective rewards, will stay relevant for a longer time. The end-game rewards will also be boosted as we get more coins and SP.

SP after a match will be something new, as we haven’t seen that implemented in the past. How many more coins we will get after a completed match remains unknown at this stage.

We should also be able to get more tradable packs from different reward sources. Finally, tokens that were introduced earlier in FC 26 will continue in Ultimate Team. There will be both time-limited tokens and evergreen tokens available for us to use on our respective club journeys.

Better Control

If you loved evolution in FC 26, you will love it more in FC 27. We will be able to branch different evolutions and preview the upgrades. In simple words, you can use a single evolution and customize the upgrades you receive from it.

Once you invest a card in an evolution, you can decide which upgrades it gets. The degree of these upgrades might vary, but it gives you complete freedom.

Moreover, the Evolutions-related PlayStyles Lab will be there from launch and will be available throughout the year. It will allow us to design higher-impact playstyles to make our cards much more usable for the long run. Additionally, all Campaign and Promo items will have Role++ from launch, along with secondary positions.

We also have brief information about some seasons and promos that are going to come.

  • Season 1 (Sept. to Oct.): Future Stars
  • Season 2 (Oct. to Nov.): Ultimate Scream, Hall of FUT Unleashed
  • Season 3 (Dec. to Jan.): Winter Wildcards, Updated Live Events, Streamlined SBCs updates
  • Season 4 (Jan. to Feb.): TOTY, Custom Gameplay Live Events, End of Match rewards

Things definitely look promising as of writing, but we have seen this in the past. I will be holding on to my horses until FC 27 launches on September 18, and we have gone through the first couple of months.
