FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate disclosed on Tuesday that investigators have identified a social media account linked to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual responsible for the shooting at a Trump rally.
Abbate revealed that the social media account in question was active between 2019 and 2020, with over 700 comments attributed to it. Some of these comments, if proven to be from the shooter, expressed anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant sentiments, as well as support for political violence, characterized as extreme in nature.
While the authenticity of the account is still being verified, Abbate emphasized the importance of sharing this information due to the limited details available regarding the shooter's potential motives and mindset from other sources. He highlighted that despite the shooter being deceased, the investigation remains ongoing and urgent.
