A former FBI special agent recently provided insights into the ongoing investigation following the decryption of a killer's cellphone and laptop in an effort to uncover Thomas Crooks' motive. Retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent Scott Duffey revealed that with the successful unlocking of Crooks' electronics, the FBI can now access and analyze the digital footprint contained within.
Duffey explained that the FBI's cellular analysis surveillance team is equipped to extract data from Crooks' phone using specialized software and cell tower information. By examining this information, investigators aim to piece together Crooks' movements, particularly in the rural area where the incident occurred, and determine if he had any external communications or connections.
