The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is investigating whoever is responsible for those GTA 6 leaks from earlier this week.
Last week, Uber Technologies Inc (Uber) suffered a major data breach that temporarily took several of its internal systems offline. According to Uber, the perpetrators were likely involved with the GTA 6 breach as well (Thanks, Eurogamer).
“We believe that this attacker (or attackers) are affiliated with a hacking group called Lapsus$, which has been increasingly active over the last year or so,” Uber said via the company’s website. “This group typically uses similar techniques to target technology companies, and in 2022 alone has breached Microsoft, Cisco, Samsung, Nvidia, and Okta, among others. There are also reports over the weekend that this same actor breached video game maker Rockstar Games.”
Rockstar has not publicly acknowledged these claims but did state that it’s ‘very disappointed’ that most people’s first exposure to GTA 6 came from unfinished gameplay clips. The leaks apparently won’t have a significant impact on development, at least for now.
There’s no question that all of the GTA 6 leak business is probably the biggest gaming news story of 2022. Many high-profile industry professionals have been sending Rockstar well-wishes over the unfortunate situation.
