Fausto Vera puts Celtic on transfer red alert as Corinthians and Genk see bids 'booted out'

Celtic appear to have been given a major boost in their hopes of landing Fausto Vera as reports claim Corinthians and Genk have had the door slammed in their face. The 22-year-old playmaker has recently emerged as one of the Hoops' top midfield targets with Vinicius Souza joining Espanyol.

He's been one of Argentinos Juniors' top performers in recent seasons but, with 18 months left on his deal, a number of clubs in Europe and South America are hopeful of getting a deal done. Earlier today it appeared Ange Postecoglou 's hopes of bringing him in had been dealt a major blow, with Brazilian side Corinthians and Belgium's Genk both formalising their interest.

However new reports in Brazil suggest all is not as it seems. According to Lance , the bids on the table are in the region of €4m (£3.4m), and have been shown the door by Argentinos.

They are holding out for €6.5m (£5.5m) for their key man. It's understood they would rather keep him and risk losing him for a lower price down the line than make a substantial compromise.

They do also note that Genk might be willing to raise their bid to closer to €6m (£5.1m) but it remains to be seen if Argentinos would accept that improved offer. The impressive Vera has managed four goals and three assists from central midfield this season and would be Celtic 's second Argentine signing if he arrived this summer - left-back Alexandro Bernabei the first.

Another option on the table for the Hoops is Israeli midfielder Mohammad Abu Fani. Record Sport first revealed their interest in the Maccabi Haifa man earlier in the window and he remains a live option.
